The Kent Student Chapter
Supported by the Kent Branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, but run entirely by undergraduate students at Canterbury Christ Church University, the Student Chapter was officially launched in 2008 and has grown in numbers each academic year.
Its mission is to provide students with practical marketing experience which complements their degrees and interests; enabling them to develop their skills and enhance their future job prospects. It aims to achieve this by:
- Working on live marketing projects with Kent companies, Canterbury Christ Church University and the CIM, to enhance and develop skills.
- Improving the relationships between students, the University and the Kent business community.
- Keeping the student body of the University and other interested parties up to date with our activities and current marketing information through regular communication.
- Representing Marketing as a discipline at the University through events for students and the local community.
Since its launch it has undertaken two main projects, one for a well known Kent based family butcher – J.C Rook and Sons. The company asked the Student Chapter to create some new designs for their fleet of business-to-business delivery vans. Although these designs have not been used yet, it was confirmed to the Student Chapter that the ideas were liked and are being kept for when the vans are re-painted.
The second project was for an expatriate family in Hong Kong, who wanted ideas on how to advertise their range of bespoke jewellery, including engagement rings, to middle-class expatriate males living in Hong Kong.
Future projects include working with the local business community, as well as the University marketing department, all of which should raise its profile. More information on the Student Chapter can be found on their Facebook page or their downloadable Student Chapter Guide. Alternatively please e-mail the Kent Branch Chair if you have a project which you would like considering.
